Trey Jacobs

Washington Redskins

DL

Rookie Free Agent

Liberty

Strength: Trey Jacobs has very impressive athleticism for a defensive tackle. Trey Jacobs has a good body for a defensive end, particularly a 3-4 defensive end. Trey Jacobs has had good workouts for scouts.
Weakness: Trey Jacobs is a bit tall and lean for a defensive tackle, let alone for a nose tackle.
Development: The athleticism displayed by Trey Jacobs as a small-school defensive tackle is probably what enticed the Redskins to give him a rookie free agent look as a 3-4 defensive end. After all, overly athletic defensive tackles are exactly what teams look for in 3-4 ends. While Trey Jacobs was a successful small school defensive tackle, he was no more productive than your average major college defensive tackle facing tougher competition. However, the Redskins project him at a different position that would better utilize his size and athleticism. Trey Jacobs comes in at the bottom of a very heavy DL depth chart, but he is one of the few of the 300 pound guys with fresh legs. Also, he is one of the few 300 pound guys who has a history of special teams success. Unless his position switch goes extraordinarily well in a hurry, he's pretty much slated for the practice squad in 2010. After a year on the practice squad, the Redskins should know what they have.
Fantasy Football Rating: No impact this year.
Typecast Outlook Opinion: Ideal size and athleticism. Projection project player.
